30 Days of Hands-On Summer Play
A flexible calendar of observation, construction, movement, and making, with room to repeat favorites.
Use this calendar in order or choose a prompt that fits today. Each group links to instructions for materials, setup, and cleanup. Adults prepare tools and choose suitable spaces. The aim is to make room for play, not to complete a checklist.
Days 1–7: Notice
Use the backyard and nature activities.
- Look for one color on a short walk.
- Draw a leaf shape from the path.
- Notice near and far sounds.
- Draw a shadow on paper.
- Return to a familiar view and notice a change.
- Compare two patterns you can see outside.
- Repeat the observation you enjoyed most.
Days 8–14: Make
Use the sensory tray and collage setups.
- Arrange a fabric landscape.
- Make a paper texture collage.
- Draw a route through the landscape.
- Fold paper into a standing shape.
- Make a cardboard building.
- Add a paper sign or road.
- Put favorite pieces together as a tiny exhibition.
Days 15–21: Build and move
Use indoor hands-on play or take the chalk route outside when conditions suit.
- Build a paper bridge.
- Change one fold and compare.
- Add a room to the cardboard neighborhood.
- Copy a short movement pattern.
- Let a different person lead.
- Draw and follow a chalk route.
- Repeat the favorite build or movement game.
Days 22–30: Explore and share
Use the outing planner and hands-on games.
- Choose a kind of place to explore.
- Look at its official information together.
- Plan a short visit or a nearby walk.
- Take the outing when it fits your schedule.
- Draw one thing you noticed.
- Make a paper version of a shape from the visit.
- Take turns adding to a shared build.
- Invite someone to try a favorite activity.
- Choose three ideas to keep for another month.
A cancelled outing can become a window observation or an indoor build. Use the summer activity collection for a shorter choose-your-own menu.
